Jean is certified as a personal trainer by the American Council on Exercise (ACE). She trains women in midlife and older, including women in their 80’s and 90’s. Jean knows you can get stronger at any age! She incorporates balance training and power (speed and strength) into her workouts to guard against falls. Her workouts are personalized, challenging, varied and fun! She also helps you find ways to add movement and stretching to your daily routine at home. A former lawyer, she took up Tae Kwon Do in her early 60’s and loves dancing around to music while cooking. Each week, Jean teaches an exercise and cooking class to women in recovery experiencing homelessness at N Street Village.
What Jean’s clients have to say:
“Having trained with Jean since 2010, I can truly attest to her superior qualities. She is always well prepared, varies our workouts, makes safety a high priority, and is very encouraging. I am now over 80 and grateful to Jean that I am still an active global traveler.” Kathleen S
“Jean is a fantastic trainer! I’ve been training with Jean for several years, beginning in my late seventies. When I began, I was able to do some of the standard exercises, but I had no idea of how to do them effectively and only a vague sense of how my body worked. Since I began training, I’m overall much stronger, more agile, and more confident. I can now do a number of everyday things that were difficult before—even things as simple as getting up from a low chair or couch or getting off the floor. Jean has also helped me recover from an arm and shoulder injury and subsequent surgery. Just as important, I’m now convinced that I CAN get stronger as I age and that intelligent exercise is the key.” Alice M
“By working out with Jean, I feel stronger and have more endurance. I’m able to carry heavy grocery bags, I can walk at a good pace (up to 5 miles), and I’m able to do HIIT exercises. In addition, Jean is able to adjust our exercise plan to accommodate my doctor’s recommendation to do more weight bearing exercises to prevent osteoporosis. She can also adjust our exercise plan to accommodate how I might be feeling that day. Jean is not just a fitness instructor, but also a friend, who I look forward to seeing. Not only is there an exercise component with our time together (which is a big part), there is also a social component that I enjoy with her. I highly recommend working with Jean. It could be one of your best decisions yet.” Abbi L
“Jean always finds a way to strengthen and work particular muscle groups. If I am unable to do it one way, Jean always has multiple other ways to accomplish the exercise. My overall fitness at 71 is far better than it would be without her expertise and encouragement. Specifically, I am far better able to get up off the floor, I have increased strength in my upper and lower body, and I feel far more fit than I have in the past. What I like most is that Jean’s training sessions are always varied but targeted to core strength, balance, and focused on my specific areas of weakness. I highly recommend Jean Simons to help you maintain and improve your fitness.” Jean C.
Jean is an especially thoughtful trainer who clearly takes the time to focus on the overall needs of her clients and, in turn, designs an individual’s training program so that it integrates the entire body. She listens carefully to your input, adjusts continually, and notes your progress. I particularly love that she comes to each session with a plan, takes careful notes, and shares information about the type of exercise you can do on your own. Since working with Jean (4 months now), I move more easily, am more confident of my balance, and have more flexibility and strength. In addition, because I am on the long path of learning to live with knee replacement, training with Jean has been an important part of my daily life and lifts my spirits. Jean is totally tuned in to what I need to maintain physical health as I age ….a true gift and much appreciated!

“It’s only a number…Your age. Your weight. Your BMI. What matters most is how you feel about yourself, how your clothes fit, how much more energy and focus you have to accomplish daily tasks. I look forward to my sessions with Jean because she understands the difficulties of establishing routines of healthy behaviors and helps me maintain them, despite the occasional setback. Working out with Jean is a priority for me. She is a “buddy” that encourages me with challenging yet fun workouts that can be sustained over time. There’s no judgment. Come as you are and push as hard as you want. Your sessions are tailored for your needs and goals–strength training, aerobics, relaxation methods, and nutritional advice. I’ve improved my mental acuity, physical stamina, and eating habits because of my commitment to working with Jean. Invest in yourself.”
